For the past 27 years, Teach For America (TFA) has been recruiting talented leaders who teach for at least two years and become lifelong advocates for children. TFA has brought over 55,000 leaders into the field of education, impacting more than 10 million students nationwide.
Join us for light refreshments, networking and a conversation with Steve on educational equity and the business case for investing and engaging in K-12 education. Steve will share why he became involved with Teach For America, his perspective on leadership as an important lever for change, and why he continues to believe in TFA’s approach to advancing education excellence. TFA-Twin Cities executive director Mikisha Nation, also a Dartmouth grad (’00), will share her team’s strategies to ensure more students have a rigorous and equitable education, in a state that has a large achievement gap between white students and students of color.

Steve Mandel is the founder of Lone Pine Capital, a global long/short and long-only equity money manager which he started in 1997. Prior to founding Lone Pine, Mr. Mandel was managing director and consumer analyst at Tiger Management Corporation (1990-1997), mass-market retailing analyst at Goldman Sachs (1984-1990) and consultant at Mars and Company (1982-1984).
Mr. Mandel graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy, Dartmouth College, and Harvard Business School. He is a member of the Harvard Business School Board of Dean’s Advisors, a trustee of Teach For America, Board Chair of Dartmouth College and is a former trustee of Phillips Exeter Academy.
Mr. Mandel and his wife Sue live in Greenwich, Connecticut and have three children.
Mikisha Nation shares lived experience with many of the students she serves and is deeply committed to ending educational inequity. Arriving in the U.S. from Jamaica at age 6, she was raised in an inner-city community in Bridgeport, Connecticut. She credits the support of her family, a few great teachers, and enrichment programs like Horizons and Upward Bound to helping her succeed. Mikisha went on to earn her undergraduate degree from Dartmouth (’00), and a graduate degree from UNC-Chapel Hill’s School of Global Public Health (’02).
Mikisha brings 17 years of experience in corporate, government, and nonprofit leadership to her role. She has also been executive director of Breakthrough Twin Cities, and spent four years as a senior business partner at Target.
Mikisha and her husband Desmond (Dartmouth ’01) live in Minneapolis with their three sons, ages 2, 4, and 6.
