A Tour of the Newly-Restored Minnesota State Capitol Building

A tour of our beautiful, newly-restored capitol building, designed by noted architect Cass Gilbert. The tour is led by Ted Lentz, AIA, member of the Capitol Preservation Commission. Limited to 30. Followed by an informal gathering nearby for refreshments.

Coming a month after the potentially divisive 2018 mid-term elections, this guided tour of the restored state capitol will share specific decisions, spaces and important works of art with hopeful insights into Minnesota—a state that works. The restored and enhanced art and architecture of “The People’s House” provide an optimistic view for the future of our state and nation.

The Minnesota State Capitol, an incredible work of art since 1905, has all the original character of its significant spaces and places.  The Legislative and Judicial chambers, hearing rooms, the key administrative offices and substantial public spaces have been augmented with over 40,000 square feet of new public space. These areas will be adapted to tell contemporary Minnesota stories.

Logistics

Parking is free on Sundays on the street and in state lots, including the Centennial Parking Ramp east of Cedar St. on Rev. Dr. MLK Jr Blvd.

We will meet at 1 PM at the base of the main (south) staircase. If the weather is inclement, we will meet in the carriageway below the staircase.

Participants are welcome to join an informal gathering nearby for refreshments.
