"Notes from the Underground" is regarded as Doesteovsky's most revolutionary novel.
The literal translation would be "Notes from under the Floorboards"
which sounds very domestic, which it is not.
Published in 1864, the unnamed central narrator reflects on apparent contradictory versions of himself: personal strength, personal weakness, and even personal pathology. A novel that has been said to mark the dividing line between 19th and 20th century fiction. More Freudian than Freud in novel form.
It will make for a very good book club uninterrupted discussion, drawing much from contemporary issues.
