Closing the Gap

Low-income students graduate from college at one tenth the rate of their higher income peers, and the gap is growing. Closing this achievement gap is a critical issue for the Twin Cities community to address in order to sustain a robust and vibrant economy in the future. A college degree changes the lives of graduates, their families, and our communities. According to the U.S. Census, college graduates earn about $1 million more over their lifetime than high school graduates, pay $300,000 more in federal income taxes, and experience 30% lower unemployment rates.

Join Harvard Kennedy School alum, Jim McCorkell, as he leads a conversation focusing on the urgent need to implement innovative and strategic solutions in order to address the growing achievement gap in the Twin Cities and across the country. In 2000, Jim founded College Possible, a St. Paul-based nonprofit that has received international recognition for its proven results and has grown to serve more than 12,000 students annually across the country.
