TCAN: High Profile Trials—A Conversation with Judge Kathryn Quaintance, Smith College '77
The Smith College club invites you to join them in a discussion with Judge Quaintance, who presided over the trial of ex-police officer Mohammed Noor.
Kathryn Quaintance has been serving as District Court Judge (4th Judicial District) since 2000, working primarily in the criminal and juvenile areas. Prior to her judicial appointment, she worked in the Hennepin County Attorney’s office for several years. In 2019, Judge Quaintance presided over the trial of ex-police officer Mohammed Noor who was convicted of third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in the shooting death of 911 caller Justine Ruszczyk.
As we approach the start of trials of police officers charged in the death of George Floyd, we consider what lessons were learned from the Noor trial and what it is like to handle a high-profile case. Judge Quaintance will discuss her experience followed by Q & A and discussion. Questions can be submitted in advance via e-mail to president@smithclubmn.org. Judge Quaintance asks that attendees refrain from questions regarding the Floyd case but welcomes all other questions.
There is no cost for this event, but we ask that you register in advance.
