D H Lawrence - Sons and Lovers
Published 1913
In the US, Sons and Lovers was banned by the Comstock Act, passed in 1873. Included in the banned books were The Arabian Nights, The Canterbury Tales, The Decameron, and later to persecute authors like Joyce, Hemingway, Hugo, O'Neill, Steinbeck, Faulkner and Fitzgerald.
Noteworthy, the Classic Fiction Book Club has expanded to include non-classics and non-fiction and is now called the Harvard Book Club.
