Harvard Book Club - North Woods

by American Author Daniel Mason, publication date 2023

7:30 pm to 9:00 CDT by Zoom

A historical novel spanning some 400 years, a story of a single isolated yellow house (an important detail) in western Massachusetts.  A Little House on the Prairie it is not.

The book's fame and challenge is the unconventional structure.  Instead of following a single protagonist, it reflects multiple genres, using letters, diaries, poems.  The house is occupied by a diverse set of characters, human and non-human, living and dead -  who do not depart.

The short summary: ".... it blends human history with the cycles of the natural world...." from the New York Times.  Also from the NYT, named one of the 10 best books of 2023.  Having read it in 2024 and reread it in 2025, it is one of the 10 best books over a span of several years.
