Since Ann Markusen graduated from the Georgetown Foreign Service School in 1968, she has launched a half dozen successful public policy research and action projects. Markusen has served as professor of economics and urban planning at the Universities of Colorado, California Berkeley, Northwestern, Rutgers and Minnesota, worked for one to two years at every level of US government - the Michigan Legislature, the US General Accounting Office, and the City of Chicago's Economic Development - as well as international research gigs in South Korea, Japan, Brazil, Germany, and the UK. Her research and teaching in industrial, labor and regional economics and public finance have tackled issues such as city fiscal crisis, plant closings, defense conversion, creating good work, and how artists, arts and culture contribute to our communities. Ann Markusen is Director of the Arts Economy Initiative and the Project on Regional and Industrial Economics at the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs, and Principal of Markusen Economic Research. Markusen holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics from Michigan State University. Click here for more information.
