TCAN: Conquering Classroom Boredom

Penn alumna and Mounds View HS teacher Martha Rush talks about conquering this obstacle to learning. Preceded by food and socializing. Sponsored by the Penn club.

What’s the big deal about boredom?  We've all been bored, whether it was listening to a lecture in high school, waiting in line at the DMV, watching a bad movie, or sitting through a pointless meeting.  But have you ever considered how classroom boredom impacts high school kids -- and contributes to the achievement gap?

University of Pennsylvania alum Martha Rush, who has taught at Mounds View High School in Arden Hills for the past 20 years, has mastered the art of beating boredom and creating energy and engagement in the classroom.  She will be talking about her personal battle against boring instruction and reading from (and signing) her new book, Beat Boredom: Engaging Tuned-Out Teenagers.

This event will be at the very fun Stella’s in Uptown.
