Harvard Book Club

Discuss "Flaubert's Parrot" by Julian Barnes

Our next book club meeting is Tuesday, May 21 at 7:30 pm.  Host is Dorothy Marden.

In addition to the Julian Barnes "Flaubert's Parrot" or in lieu of Flaubert, you may have an interest in two other of Barnes' books that were very highly recommended.

"The Sense of an Ending", 2011, awarded The Man Booker Prize

"The Noise of Time", 2016

"The Sense of an Ending" only 163 pages, and true to the critic:  "A novel so compelling that it begs to be read in a single sitting."  So it was my experience.

"The Noise of Time" also on the brief side, 193 pages.  It is fiction, a trajectory of the Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich, cited as a "portrait ........and an exploration of the meaning of art and its place in Soviet society..."

Noteworthy, the Classic Fiction Book Club has expanded to include non-classics and non-fiction and is now called the Harvard Book Club.
